Project Overview

This Sevenoaks project involved creating a bespoke garden art studio designed to provide a peaceful and practical creative space within the client’s garden.The brief was to deliver a fully insulated, year-round studio with strong natural light and a calm internal atmosphere, while ensuring the building sat comfortably within its surroundings and complemented the character of the existing property.

Planning & Design Considerations

The project made use of an underutilised corner of the garden, transforming it into a purposeful and attractive space without impacting the main garden layout.

As the property is located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the scheme required a Certificate of Lawful Development. We managed the entire process on the client’s behalf, from the initial design proposals through to preparation and submission of the application.

Careful consideration was given to the studio’s size, positioning, and external appearance to ensure it sat comfortably within the landscape, complemented the existing property, and preserved the character of the surrounding setting.

Materials & Specification

The studio combines striking Thermowood cladding with charcoal composite decking, chosen with a subtle woodgrain finish to create a modern and durable external palette. The contrast between the warm natural timber and darker detailing gives the building a bold, contemporary character.

Anthracite fascias, aluminium windows, and bi-fold doors were selected to frame the structure with clean modern lines while creating a sharp contrast against the timber finish. The generous glazing allows an abundance of natural light into the studio, creating a bright and inspiring internal space throughout the day.
